Creativity has been the driving force in my life. The medium
has been irrelevant. The need to challenge myself intellectually
and creatively has been an unquenchable thirst. I am happiest
when left alone to explore and experiment. Whether I am
in the kitchen, at my art table or on the computer, I have
an intrinsic need to push the envelope and colour outside
the box.
I started as a fine artist, using whatever materials were
at hand. Over time, I began to experiment with photography
as a medium. As my computer skills and knowledge grew, I
realized the tremendous potential computers offered for
complimenting my work. The freedom and flexibility it provides
is exhilarating at times. However, I must confess that I
still treasure the quiet moments with a pencil or a brush.
With age and maturity, I have grown to feel a deep connection
with the Earth. The focus of my current work is nature.
It is my hope to bring nature's soothing and grounding qualities
to people everywhere through the very technology that as
pulled humanity away from its cradle.
Living in Canada, in a small rural community, I am surrounded
by natural beauty. Using digital photography, I capture
the images created by Mother Earth: landscapes, waterscapes,
flora, fauna, sunsets, ice crystals, insects, misty dawns.
Light and shapes often serve as key elements in my pictures.
With a broad variety of software packages, I also use my
original photographic images to create a unique form of
digital art. Each image owes its final presentation to many
hours of experimentation. I strive to create something that
is not only beautiful, but brings the viewer a new perspective
on something very natural. I am also doing some non-representational
digital abstracts, just for fun!
In addition I work in mixed media combining
watercolour with chalk pastels, oil pastels, fine art markers
and watercolour pencil crayons. I create fantasy characters
for the young at heart, as well as spiritual, women’s
and mythic images.
