| We
need, in this particular time in history, to discuss PEACE; to
define it, to redefine it, to open to new definitions, new considerations,
new alternatives to what we believe peace is and how we can construct
a future around such a concept.
Everyone wants PEACE, it doesn't matter what political stance
you take. We all share the desire to feel safe and not be threatened
by violence but we need to share with one another these different
perspectives, visions, and ideas on how this may be possbile.
Artists can help society evolve and enlarge its
current ideas of PEACE by sharing their visions. Artists seem
to posses an extra "sense", a perspective that others
lack, a vision that goes beyond, an innate intuition, inspiration.
With this ability to see and to communicate without words, to
touch us in a non-rational way, they can help us to explore and
experience new possibilities.
I strongly believe that artists have a valuable
role to play in creating a healthy and functioning society. They
and their work are not an extra, a luxury, but rather a necessity
for a balanced culture. |
ARTROM
Gallery recognizes and values the new internet technologies which
allow us to work without geographical boundries.
Our last competition included entries from over
16 different countries. I am very excited to see what artists,
from all different parts of the world, with completely diverse
life experiences, will create as their contribution to IN PEACE
2004
I would like to encourage artists not only to
enter works they have already created but to create work specifically
for this competition/exhibition. There is plenty of time, the
entry deadline being November 1, 2004. You may also substitute
the artist statement with a brief personal expression or experience
related to the concept of PEACE.
I am sure we will see some thought provoking
interpretations, eye-opening ideas, some vibrant visuals.
